Article: Ageless.

Ageless.

Ageless.

A Word from a Customer Who Said It Better Than We Could.

Some letters you read once and move on. Some you sit with.

We received one recently that we have not stopped thinking about. A customer wrote to tell us about her teal pants. The ones she bought five years ago. The ones she was wearing on an ordinary Tuesday when three women stopped her to ask where she got them.

Three compliments. Three different ages. A woman in her early 20s. One in her 30s. Another in her mid-50s. One pair of pants.

She noticed that too.

“Three compliments in a few hours might sound like a lot, but it’s not that unusual for me when I’m wearing your clothes.”

She has been wearing XCVI for years. More than a dozen pairs of pants. The terraced wide leg. The lattice leg. A cropped pair with a shredded hem. She pairs them with a simple top because she has learned what the clothes already know: when the piece is doing the work, less is more.

She started her letter thinking the word for XCVI was timeless. By the end, she had landed on something better.

“Thinking about it more, I don’t know if timeless was the best way to describe them. It’s true, but there’s a better word: ageless.”

Ageless is right. And it is the word we have been reaching for since 1996.

Not clothes that look young. Not clothes that resist age. Clothes that simply do not participate in that conversation. A 22-year-old and a woman in her mid-50s stopping for the same pair of pants is not a coincidence. It is the result of nearly 30 years of designing for real life instead of for a trend cycle. Fabric chosen for how it moves. Color named for what it means. Details built to last seasons, not weeks.

Fashion you can live in. She lives in it. That is the whole idea.

We thought that was worth sharing.
