Who Makes XCVI?
Three stylists spent a day with the XCVI collection.
The assignment was about clothes. All three ended up talking about the people behind them.
A full rack, ten looks each, thirty in total, no direction.
Pull what works. Say what you think on camera.

HANNA FERRER went to the seams first. Before styling, she worked in design, and it shows in what she notices. She has been styling in Los Angeles for eight years and grew up in Venezuela around fabric her mother and aunts sewed with. ERIN NOEL had never worked with the collection before that day. After twenty years dressing people, she kept returning to the construction. VERONICA TAYLOR BLACK has worked with XCVI for more than twenty years. She knows what the clothes look like new and what happens after years of wearing them. |
30 years of XCVIbeginning in Los Angeles
XCVI began in 1996, when Gita Zeltzer launched the first collection from the back of a Melrose Avenue boutique. Today, her children Alon and Daniela lead the company, and designer Lilia Gorodnitski remains central to our creative story.

Who founded XCVI?Gita Zeltzer came to fashion with a background in theater. After moving to Los Angeles, she opened a boutique on Melrose with her husband, Marik. The first XCVI collection followed in 1996. The family connection is still visible on set. Veronica describes seeing familiar faces and generations of the family over the years. That continuity is part of what brings her back as both a model and a stylist.
Who designs XCVI?Lilia Gorodnitski has helped shape XCVI since the early years. We once profiled her at a fitting, checking and adjusting the collection on a model with the team. That close attention to the garment is also where Hanna Ferrer begins. With a background in design, she notices construction before considering another way to style a piece. In her interview, Hanna explains, “I'm very into sewing lines.” |
Who runs XCVI?XCVI has been in Los Angeles since 1996. Gita founded it. Her children, a brother and sister, run it now. Lilia Gorodnitski has designed XCVI almost from the start. Gita brought her on as the brand grew, and Lilia has helped shape the collection for most of its life. Her eye has stayed close to the work, from the first idea through the fitting room, where proportion, construction and fit are worked out on the body. Her daughter Nadia has entered that creative world too, contributing artwork to the collection. It is a small part of a much longer story, but a familiar one at XCVI. People stay close to the work, and sometimes the next generation finds its way into it. That continuity extends beyond the family and the design room. The people making XCVI have been working with the clothes for years, carrying an understanding of construction and fit from one collection to the next. |
Who makes XCVI clothes? The answer is larger than one person. It is the family that has stayed with the company, the designer who has shaped the collection for most of its life, and the people behind the construction and fit who have spent years working with the clothes. That experience shows up quietly. In the sewing lines Hanna noticed. In the stitching Erin stopped to look at. In the pieces Veronica is still wearing twenty years later.
