Mix-and-Match at the Workplace

Looks like more and more of us working gals are looking for greater flexibility. That is, flexible work schedules and flexible work attire.

Last week, NPR did a series on the end of the rigid 9-to-5 work schedule.  Cutting edge, 21st century workplaces are shedding the traditional work hours and allowing their employees to “mix-and-match” their schedules (still asking for 40 hours of work, just some of those hours are done outside the office).

And the same goes to dress codes.  It started with women shedding off the heels and wearing comfortable shoes.  Now, the fast majority of professional working women in the United States have ditched the stuffy suit in favor of something more casual, according to a recent report by WGSN.

Win it: Olivia Wilde’s Fave Boyfriend Blazer!

What’s the one piece this very moment that can last forever in your closet and still always seem current and modern? Straight off your beau's back -- the Boyfriend Blazer!

I just love this look -- not just because it covers up my tuchus but because it works with everything. You can wear it with trousers or a pencil skirt, over a sequined mini-dress or rocker tee and jeans. See?

Some Boyfriend Blazer rules to live by:
- You can style this with boyfriend jeans. Just make sure you put a sexy high heel with it.
- Don't borrow a man's jacket. The fit won't be as flattering.
- Mix it up with a romantic tank top with ruffles or something feminine.
- Turn up the cuffs if the lining is nice. If not, go to the tailor and have it fitted properly.

Amis-Cameron hosted a contest called ‘Red Carpet Green Dress’ for designers to enter their concept for a beautiful gown worthy of this prestigious event, combined with environmentally friendly and sustainable fabrics.

When it comes to the idea of Green Fashion, we may think that it is all humorous recycling concepts: Wedding gowns made of white boxer-briefs, jackets made from newspaper.

But there is a world of cutting-edge material development out there that is not only for biodegradable plastics and paper-goods, but for finer, softer materials that can be incorporated in this vast world of the (sometimes wasteful and excessive!) fashion industry.
