Feel Good Fashion

I used to work for a hunger-relief organization, and Thanksgiving was the time of year when our work was being acknowledged.  We were entirely focused on helping other people, a feel-good cause.

So when my brother asked me to join the family business, I couldn’t quite wrap my head around what the transition to the (infamous) fashion industry would be like.  “Fashion is superficial and shallow,” I thought, “and only makes women feel bad about the way they look.”

Five years later, I can confidently say that the fashion industry is not all futile and vain.  And I know that thanks to incredible, albeit rare, moments such as the phone call I received two weeks ago from Rebecca.

Warmth to Melt the Soul

The cold is here! I used to scoff at people who said that here in Los Angeles when I first moved from New York. The weather here in the winter months can barely be referred to as “cold.”

Alas here I am, 6 years later, feeling the bite of a breeze and thinking that it is extreme.

Although most frown at the onset of the chilly months, I find myself smiling inside.

Embrace Your Inner Pumpkin

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and frankly, I’m not ready just yet!

As soon as Halloween ended, retailers put up their Christmas merchandise, and Santa made his appearance at my local mall!

Aren’t retailers forgetting about something? A little holiday called Thanksgiving, perhaps?

I realize that global warming is blurring the lines between seasons. But where’s the love for the fall season? Where is our celebration of the harvest?

Is Fashion Precise?

Google is the new phone; Twitter is the new email. Our world is moving faster, and we are definitely becoming more efficient.

A few weeks ago, I went on a factory tour at the BMW Welt in Munich, Germany, looking to learn from the best about flawless manufacturing techniques. BMW is known for its efficient production of top quality cars, and they do so by using the most sophisticated technology (their robots produce a car body in 55 seconds!)

And while I was impressed with their unsurpassed precision, it left me wondering what happened to the human touch that is needed in order to produce beautiful products.
