Death of a Vintage Salesman

I know, I know, it sounds extreme…

But that sentence pops into my mind every time I think of how different my shopping patterns have become the older I have gotten. When I was a wee one of 13, vintage shopping was what I lived and breathed for. Nowadays I hardly have the patience, I’ve seen it all, and I’ve owned a version of almost all the hot vintage shapes and styles recognizable. The way I want to present myself on a day-to-day or at my 9 to 5 doesn’t synch up anymore with how I feel the when sporting some precious vintage goodies.

Fashion: A Comfort Food Alternative

One of the main attractions at Vogue’s Global Fashion’s Night Out two weeks ago was designer cupcakes. Not the styles on the runways, not the one-night-only sales deals, but the free cupcakes given out by high-end brands, like Club Monaco (whose food truck read “How Sweet It Is To Have a Cupcake On Us”).

When the News is Not So Hot, Fashion Is!

When I was in grad school, a journalism professor explained to us that when the news is hot, you tell it cold. This is based on the “less is more” approach to story telling.

And vice versa…when the news is cold, the reporter is told to use sensational language in the headline and the lead, as to attract the readers’ attention.

I just got back from the MAGIC tradeshow in Vegas, and it seems to me that we in the fashion world are following a similar approach to styling.
